Apply for maternity benefit as a privately insured person or with a statutory health insurance fund as a family insured person

As an expectant mother, you can apply for maternity benefit from the Federal Social Security Office (BAS) for the period of protection before and after childbirth and for the day of childbirth. You must meet certain requirements for this.

Apply for reimbursement of remuneration paid during maternity leave

If you are prohibited from employing employees on maternity leave, you will initially incur costs as an employer, for example for maternity pay and employer contributions. You can apply for reimbursement of these costs from the statutory health insurance funds.

Applying for maternity benefit as a person with statutory health insurance

If you become a mother, you can receive maternity benefit for the protection periods before and after childbirth as well as for the day of childbirth. You can apply for maternity benefit from your statutory health insurance fund.

Maternity protection: apply for exemption from the ban on overtime and night work

Exceptions to the ban on overtime, night work or piecework by a pregnant or breastfeeding woman must be approved by the competent authority.

Maternity Protection: Protection against Dismissal during Maternity Protection and Parental Leave - Request for Exception

As a rule, there is protection against dismissal during pregnancy and parental leave. For exceptions to this rule, you must contact the relevant office.

Notify employment of a pregnant or breastfeeding woman

If one of your employees has informed you that she is pregnant or breastfeeding, you must report this to the relevant supervisory authority.
