Federal Volunteer Service (BFD)

Service Description

The new Federal Volunteer Service offers citizens the opportunity to get involved in social, cultural, ecological or other fields of activity oriented toward the common good.

The following key points will apply from July 1, 2011:

  • Standard duration 12 months, minimum 6, maximum 24 months
  • Professional clothing, accommodation and meals can be provided or the costs reimbursed.
  • Pocket money; currently 330.00 euros
  • Contributions to pension, accident, health, nursing care and unemployment insurance are paid by the assignment location.
  • Accompanying seminars
  • Conclusion of an agreement between the volunteer and the Federal Office for Family and Civil Society Tasks (BAFzA)

How do I become a volunteer in the Federal Volunteer Service?

  • Contact the organization directly or search for a volunteer position on the Federal Volunteer Service website.
  • Apply directly to the volunteer organization
  • Conclude a written agreement
