Service Description

The aim of the educational package is not to deprive children from financially weak families of the necessary educational and participation opportunities. As an entitled person or as a parent, you have the opportunity to apply for financial support from the state for this purpose. The support relates to the following areas:

Up to a maximum of 18 years of age:

- Participation in social and cultural life, e.g. in a sports club or music school, is subsidized by up to EUR 10.00 per month.

Up to a maximum of 25 years of age:

  • The provision of personal school supplies is subsidized with EUR 100.00 per year (EUR 70.00 for the first half-year, EUR 30.00 for the second half-year).
  • Costs for supplementary appropriate learning support are covered insofar as it is necessary to achieve the learning goals set according to school law regulations.
  • The actual costs for one-day excursions by schools, day care centers and day care centers are reimbursed.
  • For excursions of several days by day care centers and in day care for children as well as for class trips within the framework of school law provisions, the costs are reimbursed in the actual amount.
  • Subsidies are paid for communal lunches for pupils (if the school is responsible) and for children in day care centers and in day care for children. The own contribution amounts to EUR 1.00 per day.
  • The necessary actual expenses for transportation to the nearest school of the chosen course of education (monthly student tickets) are covered (own contribution, if the ticket can also be used outside of student transportation).

As of now, parents who receive benefits according to SGB II, SGB XII, housing allowance or child supplement can apply for benefits for their children at the districts and independent cities.

A subsidy can be applied for under the following conditions for:

1. lunch in daycare centers, schools and after-school care centers:

  • Proof by the applicant that the child has participated in the common lunch on an ongoing or intermittent basis (e.g. registration for lunch). The proof must include the name of the child, the name of the school or daycare center, the name of the catering provider and the period for which the child is registered.
  • Reimbursement of a monthly lump sum, own contribution of 1 euro per lunch.

2. culture, sports, leisure activities:

  • Proof that your child was a member of a club or participated in courses.
  • Monthly amount: 10 Euro per child
  • The monthly budget can also be saved for participation in (more expensive) leisure activities.

3. school excursions and school trips lasting several days, as well as excursions to day-care centers:

  • Cost absorption for school excursions and multi-day class trips as well as excursions to day care centers for children upon presentation of written notification by the school or day care center.

4. learning support:

  • Certificate of need from teacher and proof of learning support provided.
  • Individual learning support at school has already been exhausted.
  • the poor performance is not due to unexcused absences or persistent misconduct.

supplementary appropriate learning support is suitable and additionally necessary to achieve the essential learning objectives defined in accordance with the provisions of school law (learning objectives do not include the attainment of a higher-level school leaving certificate or the improvement of the grade point average).

5. school supplies:

  • Pupils receive for school equipment (e.g. school satchels, sports kit and writing, arithmetic and drawing materials) in each case
  • 70 euros for the first half of the school year on August 1 (applies for the first time for the 2011/2012 school year).
  • for the 2nd school semester as of February 1, 30 euros

6. school transportation:

  • Subsidy for monthly travel pass (if private use is possible) or total cost coverage (if used exclusively for school bus).
  • Prerequisite is that transportation to the nearest school is necessary and the costs are not covered by others.

Reimbursement of costs is possible if the conditions for

  • a need for assistance in the sense of the Social Code Book II (SGB II),
  • a need for assistance within the meaning of the Twelfth Book of the Social Code (SGB XII),
  • a one-time benefit according to the Federal Child Benefit Act (BKGG) or
  • the relationship of housing allowance according to the housing allowance law

are present.
