For the recognition procedure, the following documents must be submitted in the original and in a certified translation (cf. § 5 Paragraph 2 FahrlG):

• a proof of identity (identity card / passport in official certification, if not presented in person),
• an officially certified copy of the certificate of competence or the training certificate which entitles the holder to take up the profession of driving instructor in the issuing country,
• a certificate comparable to the certificate of good conduct in accordance with § 30a Paragraph 1 Number 1 of the Federal Central Register Act (Bundeszentralregistergesetz) from the state in which the qualification or training certificate or professional experience was acquired (not older than three months if presented),
• official proof from the state in which the certificate of qualification or professional experience was acquired that there is no case in which the exercise of the profession would have to be prohibited due to a lack of mental or physical aptitude within the meaning of Section 3 Paragraph 6 in conjunction with Section 2 Paragraph 1 Sentence 1 Number 2 FahrlG (not older than three months if presented), and
• a certificate stating that the activity of driving instructor has been exercised for at least two years within the last ten years prior to the issue of the certificate.

In addition, the applicant must have the necessary knowledge of the German language for the exercise of the driving instructor profession (the language level must correspond to the competence level C1).

Furthermore, in the event of significant deviations in training and examination, additional documents may be requested. These are in particular documents on training, examination and professional experience. If significant deviations are found, an adaptation course lasting a maximum of three years or an aptitude test may be required in the course of the recognition procedure.
