Apply for an international driver's license

Service Description

International Driving Licenses are required for temporary stays in some, mainly non-European countries. The International Driving License is a travel document that is primarily intended to make it easier for official traffic monitoring bodies (especially the police) to determine whether a foreign motor vehicle driver is traveling with the required driving license for his or her vehicle.

In most European countries, foreign drivers are no longer required to carry an international driver's license. However, it is strongly recommended to carry one when traveling to Albania, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. For journeys through non-European countries, it is mandatory in most cases to have an international driver's license with you.

Please find out in good time whether an International Driver's License is required for your destination country, as this must be applied for at least 6 weeks before the start of your trip. This is particularly necessary if you do not yet have an EU card driver's license.

To apply, you as the applicant must appear in person at the driver's license office.
