General:

• Photo ID (ID card or passport (if passport is presented, this must be accompanied by a current registration certificate from the registration office responsible for the main place of residence; registration certificate must not be older than 3 months at the time of application)).
• Photo, 45 x 35 mm in portrait format and without border (so-called biometric passport photo) - frontal photo, without head covering and without covering of the eyes
• Information about the previous possession of a domestic or foreign driving license
• Certificate of good conduct with indication of the purpose of use "new issue of driving license"; is to be applied for at the registration office responsible for the main place of residence
• Proof of participation in a training course in first aid. In the case of a new driver's license being issued, proof is not required if the applicant has previously taken part in first aid training or training in first aid (cf. § 76 No. 11a FeV).

Classes A, A2, A1, AM, B, BE, L, T:

• Eye test certificate from an optician or certificate/report from an ophthalmologist (must not be older than 2 years at the time of application).

Classes C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE, D1E:

• Certificate from an ophthalmologist (must not be older than 2 years at the time of application)
• Expert opinion on physical and mental aptitude (must not be older than 1 year at the time of application)

Additionally for the classes D, D1, DE, D1E:

• Proof of suitability of the special requirements according to No. 2 of Annex 5 to the FeV
• Certificate of good conduct stating the purpose of use "issuance of driver's license for passenger transport"; must be applied for at the registration office responsible for the main place of residence.
