Honors for lifesavers

Service Description

State recognition of rescue acts is based on the Thuringian Ordinance on State Recognition of Rescue Acts of August 18, 1994 (Gazette of Laws and Ordinances for the Free State of Thuringia No. 30 of September 29, 1994, page 1044).

These are:
1. the rescue medal,
2. the commemorative medal and
3. the commendation.

To 1.
The rescue medal for rescue from danger is awarded to persons who have saved human lives or averted a life-threatening danger for the general public under life-threatening or particularly threatening, dangerous circumstances and who have shown an extraordinary degree of personal commitment and willingness to make sacrifices through their selfless behavior.

to 2.
The commemorative badge is awarded to persons who have saved human lives or averted a life-threatening danger to the general public under less serious circumstances.

To 3.
For acts of rescue which do not meet the conditions of points 1 and 2, but which justify recognition, the Minister of the Interior may issue a commendation in the name of the Thuringian state government.

In addition to the commendation, a monetary reward may be granted in connection with the rescue deed.
