With the European Year of Monument Protection in 1975, it became generally accepted that the past can only have a future if the built testimonies are preserved. The cities and places that have grown in history mean for our lives and those of the following generations the possibilities for individual development, for identification. They are a piece of home.

The preservation of our cultural heritage as part of history is a task of the state. This also means, that it intervenes in the tasks of monument protection in a formative way. The state fulfills its responsibility by protecting monuments from inappropriate changes that destroy their historical significance. It grants the owner of the monument financial subsidies and advises him on proper preservation.
