Report benefits from statutory accident insurance and expenses for property damage in the event of emergency aid

Service Description

People who make a special effort in the public interest are protected by statutory accident insurance. The German Social Code (SGB VII) refers to this as "persons providing assistance".

If you personally provide assistance to other people in an emergency and suffer an accident in the process, you will receive the same benefits from statutory accident insurance as employees in the event of an accident at work. Material damage caused while providing assistance is also reimbursed, such as damage to spectacles. The accident insurance fund of the federal state in which the assistance was provided is responsible.

In some federal states, emergency helpers receive a first aid card from the fire department, the police or the chaplains at the scene of the accident. This may help to clarify your claim.

This statutory accident insurance cover also exists abroad if your place of residence is in Germany or if you usually stay in Germany. In this case, the accident insurance fund of the federal state in which you live is responsible.

The statutory accident insurance does not pay compensation for pain and suffering.

Accidents in the context of professional or other organized activities, for example with the fire department or police, are not covered by the benefits described here.

You may also have claims under the Victims Compensation Act (OEG). The state pension authorities are responsible for this.
