Applying for a short-term license to participate in the amateur radio service

Service Description

If you have a foreign amateur radio license and are only staying in Germany for a short time, you can obtain a license to participate in the amateur radio service in Germany for a maximum period of 3 months. To do so, submit an application to the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA).

To do so, use the "home callsign" shown on the foreign amateur radio license, which must be followed by

  • the character string "DO/" for class E and
  • the character string "DL/" for class A.

Once the application has been submitted, the BNetzA will check whether and which of the two classes corresponds to your national amateur radio license.

It is assumed that you have informed yourself about the amateur radio regulations applicable in Germany.

You cannot obtain a short-term license if

  • the CEPT recommendations T/R 61-01 or (05)06 apply to your national amateur radio license or
  • your place of residence is in Germany.

Please note that a 3-month short-term license cannot be extended. If you intend to stay longer in Germany, you should apply for recognition of your foreign amateur radio examination certificate or permit.
