The Federal Statistical Office (StBA) continuously collects and analyzes data on the German economy and other areas of society. The StBA prepares the data and makes it available. These statistics serve as a basis for policy-making, among other things.

For this reason, companies are obliged to provide information. Not all companies are surveyed. Depending on the sector, a different number of companies are selected at random. If your company receives a corresponding request from the StBA, you must provide the requested data.

This obligation to provide information to the Federal Statistical Office applies to you as an operator of facilities

• for the production of natural gas
• for the transportation of natural gas or biogas
• storage of natural gas.

Depending on the facility, you must provide the following information, among others

• Storage balance at the end of the month
• Storage levels at the end of the month
• the quantity of natural gas extracted
• the quantity of own consumption
• imports and exports of natural gas in physical quantities, broken down by neighboring countries

The obligation to provide information to the Federal Statistical Office also applies to companies that import or export

• Lignite
• lignite products
• hard coal and
• hard coal coke or briquettes

These companies must provide the following information:

• the import and export of coal, broken down by country and by type of coal, energy content and border-crossing values
• the quantity of stock, broken down by type of coal
• the quantity delivered, broken down by coal type and, within the coal types, by customer and consumer groups
