Research object identifiers (OID) for electronic data exchange in the healthcare sector in Germany in the public OID register

Service Description

For standardized software communication in the German healthcare system, companies that produce software or IT service providers can identify their objects. Unique object identifiers (OID) are used for this purpose.

An object identification number is a number for identifying objects. Objects can be

  • Organizations,
  • templates,
  • Identifiers,
  • coding schemes,
  • value lists, so-called value sets

An OID is used to uniquely identify information objects for exchange between computer systems. These numbers are assigned because computers are better at dealing with numbers than with non-standardized text.

Valid and previously valid OIDs and associated information can be searched for and displayed in the publicly accessible OID register.

You can search using a free text field or in the tree view of the register.

The register displays the description of the object and other metadata for each OID, as well as the responsible and applicant organization and, if applicable, the contact person and applicant.
