The kindergarten is a Thuringian invention, as the world's first kindergarten was opened in Bad Blankenburg in Thuringia in 1840. To this day, the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (TMBJS) continues to provide important impetus for better early childhood education and greater family friendliness.
More than 240,000 children and young people study at Thuringian schools. Around 20,000 teachers prepare them for their later lives. This also entails a lot of work for the administration. Starting with personnel, through school structures, to pedagogical issues, there are numerous topics on the ministry's desks. As the highest service authority, the TMBJS is responsible for teachers and special education specialists at state schools, for educators at state after-school programs, for employees in the education administration and for employees in the ministry. As a state ministry, it is also the supreme school supervisor and the highest school administration authority for all state-run schools.
But because education is a lifelong issue and is becoming increasingly important in the job market, the TMBJS also takes care of adult education and educational leave in Thuringia.
Other authorities are assigned to the TMBJS: five state school offices, two state study seminars (training centers for prospective teachers) and the Thuringian Institute for Teacher Training, Curriculum Development and Media (ThILLM) in Bad Berka.
These young people today...
...is an important part of the work of the TMBJS, because this is where all the important youth policy issues are implemented: child and youth protection, youth promotion, the state program for democracy, the voluntary services, but also home supervision and educational assistance. This also means that, as the highest state youth authority, it stimulates, promotes and accompanies the work and further development of independent and state youth welfare organizations, assists subordinate authorities with technical questions and develops further training measures and recommendations for the Free State. This is also the place to go for anyone who wants to open a daycare center for children, and it is also the right place to go for advice on placement in residential facilities and adoption placements.
Sports State Thuringia
Thuringian athletes achieve top performances at national and international competitions. This is something to be proud of, because with their successes, Thuringia's young and top athletes have made the trademark "Thuringian quality" world-famous in sports as well.
But such successes in top-level sports would not exist without a solid foundation in popular sports - and vice versa. For this reason, the TMBJS deals with fundamental questions of sport, sport infrastructure and sport promotion, i.e. it shapes the framework conditions for sport in Thuringia.
Work in the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports
Because so many topics are dealt with here, the employees of the TMBJS come from a wide variety of fields - lawyers, administrative staff, IT and digitization specialists, social scientists, psychologists, financial experts and educators. This particularly pronounced diversity not only ensures an inspiring working atmosphere, but also provides the necessary vision.
Foresight and prudence are key words at the TMBJS, because a good working atmosphere should apply to everyone here, whether salaried or civil servant. All employees should benefit from modern flexitime arrangements, part-time opportunities, health care offerings and a wide range of continuing education programs.
