Take an intermediate examination in dual training occupations

Service Description

The subject of the intermediate examination is the skills, knowledge and abilities specified in the training regulations as well as the subject matter from the vocational school lessons. The intermediate examination is intended to give you and your training company an impression of your current level of performance. Participation in the intermediate examination is a prerequisite for admission to the final examination. The results of the intermediate examination are an important indicator for you if you want to be admitted to the final examination ahead of time.

Intermediate examinations usually consist of a written part and, if applicable, a further practical part. Both parts of the examination usually take place on different days. The written part of the examination usually takes place nationwide on a fixed day at the same time. An intermediate examination is conducted regionally by the responsible authorities (e.g. Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Chamber of Crafts or another chamber) for all trainees approximately halfway through the training period. The time is specified in the training regulations. If there is no such regulation, it will be carried out by the responsible body.

If you have concluded a training contract with a company, this training relationship has been reported to the responsible regional authority (e.g. Chamber of Industry and Commerce) by your training company. The competent authority therefore knows the period in which you must take your intermediate examination. Your training company will therefore be notified of the examination by the competent body in a letter or electronically.

The intermediate examination is organized by the regional office in consultation with the voluntary examination board. The examination board, consisting of employer representatives, employee representatives and teacher representatives, will take and assess your examination performance.

The examination result determined by the examination board will be forwarded to the competent body. You will receive the results in the form of a certificate of attendance.

Intermediate examinations only take place in professions in which the training regulations do not provide for a final examination in two parts.
Participation in intermediate examinations is mandatory for all trainees. However, you may not be required to take an intermediate examination if you have already completed at least two years of other training in your training relationship.
On application, you can also take part in an intermediate examination as a retrainee, but then you or the training provider must bear the costs of the examination.
