Meat processing: Approval

Service Description

You need an official license to operate a meat processing company.

Prerequisites

  • The statutory provisions on compliance with food and feed law as well as animal health and animal welfare are fulfilled.
  • There are no facts that justify the assumption that the food business operator does not have the necessary reliability to run the business.

Approval is granted on application after at least one official on-site inspection. It can be granted for a limited period and subject to conditions. Upon approval, your business premises will receive an approval number, which will be made public.

Retail businesses such as artisan butchers without slaughtering or restaurants that do not sell more than a third of their products of animal origin to other local (i.e. not more than 100 km away) retail businesses do not require approval.
