The kindergarten is a Thuringian invention, as the world's first kindergarten was opened in Bad Blankenburg in Thuringia in 1840. To this day, the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (TMBJS) continues to provide important impetus for better early childhood education and greater family friendliness.

More than 240,000 children and young people study at Thuringian schools. Around 20,000 teachers prepare them for their later lives. This also entails a lot of work for the administration. Starting with personnel, through school structures, to pedagogical issues, there are numerous topics on the ministry's desks. As the highest service authority, the TMBJS is responsible for teachers and special education specialists at state schools, for educators at state after-school programs, for employees in the education administration and for employees in the ministry. This also means that, as the highest state youth authority, it stimulates, promotes and accompanies the work and further development of independent and state youth welfare organizations, assists subordinate authorities with technical questions and develops further training measures and recommendations for the Free State. Sports State Thuringia

Thuringian athletes achieve top performances at national and international competitions. This is something to be proud of, because with their successes, Thuringia's young and top athletes have made the trademark "Thuringian quality" world-famous in sports as well.

But such successes in top-level sports would not exist without a solid foundation in popular sports - and vice versa. For this reason, the TMBJS deals with fundamental questions of sport, sport infrastructure and sport promotion, i.e. it shapes the framework conditions for sport in Thuringia.
