The women's centers funded by the Free State of Thuringia are places of encounter, communication, information, politics, culture and counseling. With their range of services, they are parts of the social help and offer system and instruments for the implementation of equality policy in Thuringia.
Women's centers are open to all women, regardless of age, nationality, religion or education. They promote communication among each other and support women in perceiving and strengthening their competencies. By offering needs-oriented, low-threshold services, women's centers are points of contact for women who need support in coping with the consequences of social and personal changes and in crises. In terms of victim protection, they offer resource-oriented counseling for women who have experienced violence.
The facilities give self-help groups the opportunity to meet on their premises.
Women's centers pursue the following goals:

• Strengthening women's self-esteem
• Reduction of disadvantages for women in professional, social and private life
• Motivation to assume political, social and professional responsibility
• Raising public awareness of the issue of "violence against women
• Low-threshold counseling and support for women who have experienced violence and are in special, difficult life situations
• Raising public awareness of issues specific to women
• Gender-just perspectives for the future
• Promoting the compatibility of family and career
  

Through their integration into local and national networks, women's centers perform an important sociopolitical task. Depending on their profile and range of services, they also have an impact on families, children and men.
These services are aimed particularly at single women, i.e. also at affected men, as well as at men who support the above-mentioned concerns or who would like to take advantage of corresponding services as affected persons. The latter varies depending on the profile of the respective women's center.
