Apply for benefits from the education package

Service Description

The aim of the education package is to ensure that children from financially disadvantaged families are not deprived of the necessary education and participation opportunities. As an eligible person or parent, you have the opportunity to apply for financial support from the state. The funding covers the following areas:

Up to a maximum of 18 years of age:

  • Participation in social and cultural life, for example in a sports club or music school, is subsidized with up to €10.00 per month.

Up to the age of 25:

  • 100.00 per year (70.00 euros for the first half of the school year, 30.00 euros for the second half of the school year).
  • The costs of additional appropriate learning support are covered insofar as they are necessary to achieve the learning objectives set out in school regulations.
  • The actual costs of one-day excursions by schools, day-care centers and day-care centers are reimbursed.
  • The actual costs of excursions lasting several days organized by day-care centers and day-care centers for children as well as school trips within the framework of school regulations are covered.
  • Subsidies are paid for communal lunches for pupils (if the school is responsible) and for children in day-care centers and day-care facilities. The personal contribution is 1.00 euro per day.
  • The necessary actual expenses for transportation to the nearest school of the chosen course of education (monthly school tickets) are covered (own contribution, if the ticket can also be used outside of school transportation).

From now on, parents who receive benefits according to SGB II, SGB XII, housing benefit or child supplement can apply for benefits for their children from the districts and independent cities.

A subsidy can be applied for under the following conditions

1. lunch at daycare centers, schools and after-school care centers:

  • Proof by the applicant that the child has participated in the shared lunch on a continuous or temporary basis (e.g. registration for lunchtime meals). The proof must include the name of the child, the name of the school or day-care center, the name of the catering provider and the period for which the child is registered.
  • Reimbursement of a monthly lump sum, own contribution of 1 euro per lunch.

2. culture, sports, leisure activities:

  • Proof that your child was a member of a club or took part in courses
  • Monthly amount: 10 euros per child
  • The monthly budget can also be saved for participation in (more expensive) leisure activities.

3. school trips and school trips lasting several days as well as trips to day-care centers:

  • Costs for school trips and school trips lasting several days as well as trips to day-care centers are covered upon presentation of written notification by the school or day-care center.

4. learning support:

  • Certificate of need from the teacher and proof of learning support provided
  • the individual learning support at school has already been exhausted
  • the poor performance is not due to unexcused absences or persistent misconduct

additional appropriate learning support is suitable and additionally necessary in order to achieve the essential learning objectives defined in accordance with the provisions of school law (the learning objectives do not include achieving a higher school-leaving certificate or improving the grade point average).

5. school supplies:

  • Pupils receive for school equipment (e.g. school bags, sports equipment and writing, arithmetic and drawing materials) in each case
  • 70 euros for the first half of the school year on August 1 (applies for the first time for the 2011/2012 school year)
  • 30 euros for the 2nd half of the school year on February 1

6. school transportation:

  • Subsidy for the monthly ticket (if private use is possible) or full assumption of costs (if used exclusively for the school bus)
  • The prerequisite is that transportation to the nearest school is necessary and the costs are not covered by others.

Reimbursement of costs is possible if the requirements for

  • a need for assistance within the meaning of the Second Book of the German Social Code (SGB II),
  • a need for assistance within the meaning of the Twelfth Book of the German Social Code (SGB XII),
  • a one-off benefit in accordance with the Federal Child Benefit Act (BKGG) or
  • the relationship of housing benefit according to the Housing Benefit Act

are available.
