Early detection, early intervention and treatment of disabled children, children at risk of becoming disabled and children with developmental delays - from birth to school entry - are part of the outpatient/mobile services offered by Thuringia's early intervention centers. The support and treatment services are provided close to the family and the child's home and also include advice and guidance for parents and caregivers.

Interdisciplinary early intervention centers offer medical-therapeutic, psychological and pedagogical services according to need and necessity, especially in cooperation with the specialists of the social pediatric centers, the pediatricians and the therapists, in order to recognize and treat all facets of child development and family problems as early as possible from different perspectives.

Early intervention for hearing and visually impaired children

Children with a sensory impairment (hearing and visually impaired children, children with central disorders of auditory and visual perception and processing, as well as children of sensory-impaired parents who are at risk of becoming disabled) can receive early intervention in addition to medical assistance at the nationwide supraregional early intervention centers.

The presence of a sensory disability necessitates a specific approach to developmental support and is provided by specially trained professionals. The curative and holistic support is usually mobile, i.e. the children are visited in their immediate living environment (parental home or day care center).
