The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) is a higher German federal authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The BNetzA's testing and measuring service will advise you on the causes of radio interference or electromagnetic incompatibilities.

If you report radio interference and the BNetzA also suspects this based on your information, the testing and measuring service will determine the source of the interference on site using special measuring and direction finding vehicles and initiate remedial measures.

Rule out device defects or operating errors before reporting

You do not need any previous technical knowledge to report radio interference.

However, before contacting the radio fault reception, please check that your fault is not due to one of the following common causes:

• a defect in your device or an operating error,
• an insufficient radio supply,
• an inadequate antenna

or

• a defective antenna connection cable.

In these cases, the radio fault reception is not the right contact.

In the event of mobile phone, telephone or Internet faults, first contact your telephone, mobile phone or Internet provider. This will allow you to rule out the possibility that your telecommunications provider is experiencing interference.

Triggers for radio interference

In everyday life, interference signals can manifest themselves, for example, as

• crackling on the radio,
• frozen TV pictures on the TV screen,
• device malfunctions or
• interference with internet reception.

Radio interference can be caused, for example, by

• Defects or ageing effects in electrical appliances and radio equipment,
• improperly installed satellite systems,
• devices whose operation is not authorized in the European Union.

It is therefore important that your devices bear a CE mark and are operated as intended.

Radio interference can also endanger public safety if it interferes with the radio communication of emergency services, police, fire department or air traffic.
