Egg packing station - Apply for approval

Service Description

Egg packing centers are businesses that sort, mark, pack and/or repack eggs according to quality and weight classes. Egg packing centers may only be operated if they have been approved by the competent authority upon application and a packing center code has been assigned.

Outside of market regulation law is required:

  • Approval under hygiene law: Egg packing centers may only place their products on the market if they are approved or registered under hygiene law. Responsibility: Veterinary and food inspection offices.
  • Eggs from organic production: In addition to market law and hygiene law, confirmation by an approved organic inspection body is required.

If eggs are sold ex farm (production site), at the door or at a public market directly to the end consumer and not according to quality and weight classes, no approval as a packing station is required.

Direct marketers who market eggs via a trading partner (retailer, baker, kiosk, other direct marketer, etc.) or who wish to offer eggs sorted by size and quality class or who have a sales radius of more than 100 kilometers require approval as a packing station.
