Take the dangerous goods driver test

Service Description

Dangerous goods can only be transported by road under certain conditions. The transportation of dangerous goods is regulated by the Dangerous Goods Ordinance for Road, Rail and Inland Waterways (GGVSEB) and the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (abbreviation ADR, French for Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route).

The vehicle driver must be in possession of an ADR certificate (ADR card). The examination is carried out by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and is taken in writing. A prerequisite for the examination is the complete participation in a training course recognized by the IHK.

To do this, you must first attend a training course at a recognized course organizer. You must then pass an examination at the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

The examination for dangerous goods drivers is usually conducted by the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce following the relevant training course on the premises of the training provider. The training courses and therefore also the examinations are divided into a basic course, advanced tank course, advanced class 1 course, advanced class 7 course and refresher training. Each course concludes with an examination.

The duration of the examination is

  • Initial training
    • Basic course 45 minutes
    • Advanced tank course 45 minutes
    • Advanced course class 1 30 minutes
    • Advanced course class 7 30 minutes
    • Refresher course 30 minutes

Admission to the examination for an advanced course can only take place if the participant has previously passed the examination for the basic course. The ADR certificate (ADR card) is valid for 5 years from the date of the examination for the basic course. ADR certificates (ADR card) are extended by 5 years from the old validity date if the training course with examination was successfully completed within one year before the ADR certificate (ADR card) expires. The extension then takes place from the expiration date.

If the training course was completed before this date, the new validity is calculated from the date of the training examination. The training course and examination must be completed within the period of validity of the ADR certificate (ADR card), otherwise the initial training course and examination must be completed again.
