The training takes place at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and comprises at least 40 hours of instruction, during which you must be present without absences. Among other things, you will be taught your legal rights and obligations as a security guard as well as techniques for dealing with people in conflict situations.
The course is taught in German, so you must have at least language skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

As part of an active dialog, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce will assess whether you are familiar with the rights and duties required for the independent performance of security tasks as well as the subject matter. Oral and written comprehension questions are asked after each subject area. If the IHK is convinced that you fulfill the requirements and have participated in the training without any absences, you will receive a certificate.

The data on the certificate is registered in an IHK administration application. The data is available for retrieval for the so-called guard register via an interface. The licensing authority responsible for the guarding trade can check the authenticity of the certificate via the guard register.

Depending on the type of activity, an examination of expertise may also be required instead of the notification, e.g. for

• patrols in public traffic areas or in areas with actual public traffic,
• Protection against shoplifters,
• Guarding the entrance area of nightclubs in the hospitality industry,
• guarding refugee accommodation in a managerial capacity
• guarding large events with protected access in a managerial capacity.

If you have a qualification in a relevant training occupation, for example as a specialist for protection and security, you do not need to provide additional proof of training.
