The aim of the education package is to ensure that children from financially disadvantaged families are not deprived of the necessary education and participation opportunities. As an eligible person or parent, you have the opportunity to apply for financial support from the state.

The following can be funded

• one-day trips from school, daycare or daycare,
• trips lasting several days from school, daycare center or daycare
• personal school supplies
• transportation for pupils,
• appropriate learning support for schoolchildren - regardless of the risk of promotion,
• communal lunchtime meals at school, nursery or after-school care or in day care,
• monthly lump sum for social and cultural activities such as sports clubs or community activities (up to the age of 18)

A subsidy can be applied for under the following conditions

1. lunch in daycare centers, schools and after-school care:

• Proof by the applicant that the child has participated in the shared lunch on an ongoing or temporary basis (for example, registration for lunchtime meals). The proof must include the name of the child, the name of the school or day-care center, the name of the catering provider and the period for which the child is registered.

2. culture, sports, leisure activities:

• Proof that your child is a member of a club or has taken part in courses
• Monthly amount: 15.00 euros per child (as of 2025)
• The monthly budget can also be saved for participation in (more expensive) leisure activities.

3. school trips and school trips lasting several days as well as trips to day-care centers:

• Assumption of costs for school excursions and school trips lasting several days as well as excursions to day-care centers after submission of written notification by the school or day-care center.

4. learning support:

• Certificate of need from the teacher and proof of learning support provided
• the individual learning support at school has already been exhausted
• the poor performance is not due to unexcused absences or persistent misconduct
• additional appropriate learning support is suitable and additionally necessary in order to achieve the essential learning objectives defined in accordance with the provisions of school law (the learning objectives do not include achieving a higher school-leaving certificate or improving the grade point average).

5. school supplies:

• Personal school supplies totaling €195.00 in the calendar year 2025 are recognized, namely €130.00 for the first half of the school year and €65.00 for the second half of the school year.
• The personal school needs will be increased annually by the same percentage as the standard needs.

6. school transportation:

• If expenses are incurred for journeys that are legally defined as "school transport" and if these expenses are not covered elsewhere, they will be covered - even if the school travel card entitles the holder to general travel outside of school transport; the personal contribution previously payable in these cases will no longer apply. In addition, a school with a special profile (e.g. with a sports or language profile or all-day schools) is now also considered to be the "nearest school of the chosen course of education".

Costs can be reimbursed if the requirements for

• a need for assistance within the meaning of the Second Book of the German Social Code (SGB II),
• a need for assistance within the meaning of the Twelfth Book of the German Social Code (SGB XII),
• a one-off benefit in accordance with the Federal Child Benefit Act (BKGG) or
• the relationship of housing benefit according to the Housing Benefit Act
• Asylum seeker benefits

are available.
