Insurance brokers require a trade license from the responsible Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This is granted if you can prove personal reliability, orderly financial circumstances, professional liability insurance and the appropriate expertise.

Insurance brokers must also be entered in the register of intermediaries. This is maintained by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and is set up at the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK).

The register is intended to make it possible to check whether an insurance broker is licensed. It thus ensures transparency and strengthens consumer protection.
