Apprenticeship roll craft: shortening or extension of the apprenticeship period

Service Description

The duration of training is bindingly defined for each occupation by the respective training ordinance in accordance with the Vocational Training Act. Upon application, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts may agree to a shortening or extension of the training period.

1. shortening of the training period

Upon joint application by the trainee and the training company, the training period may be shortened if it is expected that the training objective will be achieved in the shortened time.

2. Extension of the training period

If the apprentice fails the journeyman's examination, the apprenticeship shall be extended at the apprentice's request until the next possible repeat examination, by a maximum of one year.

Upon application by the trainee, the training period may be extended by the competent Chamber of Crafts in exceptional cases, e.g. due to longer periods of absence due to illness, poor performance in theory and practice, if the extension is necessary to achieve the training objective.

If the trainee takes parental leave, the training shall be extended by this period. A written notification to the responsible Chamber of Crafts is absolutely necessary.
