Apply for a replacement for the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)

Service Description

You may only use a vehicle subject to registration on public roads if it has been approved for this purpose by the responsible registration authority.

The registration certificate part I, the former vehicle registration document, is proof of registration. As the driver of a vehicle, you must therefore always carry this with you when driving.

You must apply for a replacement document for the registration certificate Part I in the event of

  • Loss
  • theft
  • illegibility

If the registration certificate Part I has been stolen, you must report this to the police. If you lose the registration certificate Part I or it has been destroyed, make a declaration in lieu of an oath that your statements are correct.

It is not possible to apply for a replacement document online. You must go to your local registration office in person. Until the replacement document has been issued, you may not drive your registered vehicle on public roads.
