In order to be able to use construction products, either a general building approval or an approval in individual cases must be applied for.

A general building authority approval is required if there are no technical building regulations or generally recognized technical rules for the construction product or if these deviate significantly.

Approval can be applied for in individual cases if a construction product is only to be used as part of a specific construction project.

The German Institute for Building Technology DIBt issues general technical approvals for construction products, general type approvals, European Technical Assessments and expert opinions on compliance with building requirements.
