Obtain historical topographic maps

Service Description

Are you interested in the historical topography of Thuringia? Various historical maps can be used to trace the development of towns and municipalities or rural areas. They bear witness to the cultural development, the state of the art of surveying and at the same time document the high quality of earlier cartographic work. Due to their sometimes very decorative design, the map sheets are also extremely popular with collectors.

Historical maps are available at the Thuringian State Office for Land Management and Geoinformation (TLBG) in the scales 1:25,000 and 1:100,000 as reprints. The field originals and original table sheets were kindly made available by the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, Preußischer Kulturbesitz. The selection is supplemented by historical maps in special formats depicting areas of former Thuringian principalities (e.g. Schmettau's map of the dominion of Schmalkalden at various scales, Reymann's special map at a scale of 1:200,000, Erfurt Fortress 1813).

The maps (analog / partly also in digital form - with and without georeferencing) can be obtained via the online store of the TLBG (see electronic application), directly from the responsible offices of the TLBG or via bookshops.

Further explanations on the subject can be found on the TLBG website (see link below).
