If you have successfully completed the training and examination as a farrier in Germany regulated by the German Farriery Ordinance (Hufbeschlagverordnung) or have successfully completed the further training and examination as a farriery instructor in Germany regulated by this Ordinance and can prove that you have the necessary reliability to practice the profession, you will be granted state recognition by the competent state authority.

In the case of examination certificates obtained abroad, you must submit an application in writing/electronically to the competent authority of the federal state in which you wish to practice farriery and hoof shoeing or teaching at a farriery school for the first time in order to obtain state recognition as a farrier or farriery instructor. The competent office will confirm receipt of the submitted documents within one month and will inform you if any documents are missing for the decision on your application.

The further procedure is determined by §§ 2 to 4 of the Hufbeschlag-Anerkennungsverordnung (HufBeschl-AnerkennV).

The examination certificates listed in Appendix 1 to the HufBeschl-AnerkennV are automatically recognized as equivalent to the certificates for the examination to become a farrier and are treated as equivalent if, in addition to the corresponding examination certificate, the applicant provides evidence of having attended a regulated and relevant training course of at least two years.

The examination certificates listed in Annex 2 to the HufBeschl-AnerkennV are automatically recognized as equivalent to the certificates for the examination to become an apprentice farrier.

If automatic recognition of the examination certificates cannot take place, an equivalence test will be carried out if the acquired examination certificates and professional qualifications in the country of origin entitle the holder to practice the profession of farriery apprentice blacksmith or farriery apprentice blacksmith. If there are significant differences in the qualifications, an adaptation course or aptitude test may still have to be completed. Prior to this, it is checked whether the skills, knowledge and abilities acquired in the course of professional practice fully or partially compensate for the substantial differences. In the case of examination certificates and professional qualifications recognized by the European Federation of Farriers' Associations (EFFA), it is regularly assumed that they are equivalent to the skills, knowledge and abilities demonstrated by the farrier's examination passed in Germany.

You will be issued with a certificate of state recognition as a farrier or farrier trainer.
