Applications with self-initiated full-time internships in EU institutions, the UN system, the Bretton Woods organizations, NATO, OSCE as well as in
approved non-governmental organizations
.

Combined study and internship semesters abroad for undergraduate and Master's students
The aim of the program is to enable Bachelor's and Master's students to gain international study and practical experience as part of a coherent stay abroad. By combining a study semester with an internship semester, the scholarship holders should gain international qualifications for both their further academic and professional careers.
An internship semester is a practical professional activity integrated into the standard course of study. It must be prescribed in the curriculum of the relevant degree course and be recognized by the home university.
The scholarship is awarded for a total duration of 7 to 12 months, depending on the project. Applications are possible once or twice a year, depending on the destination country.
Teaching.international
The "Lehramt.International" program aims to support prospective teachers in acquiring the intercultural skills required for successful teaching in heterogeneous classrooms. With funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the DAAD supports student teachers during their stays abroad and universities in the internationalization of teacher training courses as part of the comprehensive "Lehramt.International" programme.
Funding is provided for students at German universities who
- are seeking a degree in teaching in Germany, the so-called funding line 1, as well as
- Graduates with the first state examination/Master's degree who would like to gain practical experience abroad before their traineeship (funding line 2).
Scholarships are awarded for short internships of 30 days to 6 months for student teachers and internships of 3 to 12 months for teaching graduates at school institutions abroad.
Applicants must provide proof of a self-organized internship that is certified by the German university.
Three application periods per year are available for applications.
HAW.International: Internships abroad for students
The aim of the program is to support students from universities of applied sciences (HAW)/universities of applied sciences (FH) in carrying out internships abroad and thus to enable them to gain practical experience in an international context. The stays abroad also offer the opportunity to gain intercultural experience and to acquire or deepen foreign language skills. In this way, the program helps to qualify students for the international job market.
Students of all disciplines on Bachelor's, Master's and diploma courses at German universities of applied sciences are eligible to apply.
Funding is available for internships in the private and public sector in two program tracks:
Internship track A
Applications for full-time internships completed on the student's own initiative. The internship must be relevant to your studies and fit in with your individual educational path.
Internship track B
You can apply for up to two of the advertised internship offers (prioritization necessary). The application must be aimed at the specific requirements and task profile of the advertised internship.
The duration of the funding is a minimum of 2 months to a maximum of 6 months. Depending on your desired internship period, 4 application deadlines per year are available.
Worldwide research internships for German students of natural sciences and engineering (RISE worldwide)
With this program, the DAAD supports international exchange in the natural sciences and engineering. The program for the promotion of German students was launched in 2009 and complements the programs for foreign students RISE Germany and RISE Professional, in which British, Irish and North American students are sponsored for a research internship in Germany.
The program is aimed at Bachelor students in the natural sciences, life sciences and engineering as well as computer science, medicine and pharmacy students from Germany. Scholarship holders receive a scholarship of 6 weeks to 3 months for a research internship at universities and research institutions in around 50 countries worldwide. Supervision during the internship is provided by local researchers.
Applications for up to 3 internship offers must be submitted online between the beginning of November and mid-December, for Canada as a target country from August 11th, via the RISE Worldwide database, which contains around 800 internship offers worldwide for the coming summer.
International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE)
IAESTE is an international internship exchange organization whose tasks in Germany are carried out by the German Academic Exchange Service.
Students from German universities (including Master's students) in the above-mentioned disciplines can apply, regardless of their nationality.
The duration of the sponsorship is usually 2 to 3 months, preferably from July to October. Depending on the offers of the foreign employers, longer-term internships are also possible (4 to a maximum of 12 months).
