The taxation procedure requires different forms for tax returns, tax declarations or applications and certificates, depending on the individual tax types.

The Thuringian tax authorities recommend that tax returns be prepared in electronic form. For this purpose, you can use the ELSTER (Electronic Tax Return) service provided free of charge by the tax authorities. There you will also find an overview of offers from other providers.

After registering with the ELSTER online portal, there is no need to print out or send the forms by post. The tax return is transmitted via a secure electronic channel. Other advantages include document retrieval (pre-filled tax return) and electronic transmission of assessment data.

If you would still like to submit your tax return in paper form, you can use the forms in the pre-print service. These are generally displayed online and can be completed on a PC. However, it is not possible to send them directly to the tax office. To submit your tax return, you must print out the completed document and send it to the tax office by mail.

Alternatively, the tax return forms are also available for pickup at the Thuringian tax offices.
